Free Office Furniture
A big part of their recycling system is to ‘Reuse’ office furniture that comes into the Over2Hills depot. They don’t just believe in recycling to help the environment but also to help the community as well.
Over2Hills give partners the option to select a charity or non-profit organisation to visit their showroom and take items they have chosen to recycle, totally free of charge. This is a great initiative and I'm sure is hugely beneficial to many individuals and organisations.
Furniture Reuse
Over2Hills prority is always to reuse before recycle. Any items of furniture that are still in good condition and not claimed by nominated charites or not-for-profit organisations, are refurbished if needed, and then sold to the general public.
Innovative Furniture Remanufacture
Over2Hills are constantly on the lookout for new uses for the components and raw materials that make up office furniture. So far they have created two new products.
The new 100% recycled bed.
Both the bed frame and the mattress are made from 100% recycled material derived from office furniture. The frame of the bed is made from carefully selected boards, re-cut to provide all the components. Add to this the recycled mattress and you can sleep with a clear environmental conscience.
“Little Eric’s Earth Tonic”.
Produced from a mix of re-chipped particle board, seaweed extract and mungo, Little Eric’s Earth Tonic works just like bark mulch. Because it is 100% natural, “Little Eric’s Earth Tonic” posses no risk to children or pets.
Furniture Recycling
Finally after all other avenues are explored, furniture not suitable for reuse or remanufacture is stripped down into components and recycled using the relevant procedure. The main materials derived from office furniture are:
Particle Board
Re chipped particle board can be used as fuel in the on site biomass boiler
Metal
All metal will be directed to the Scrap Metal Industry.
Plastic
All plastic components will be sorted and ground on site before resale in to the plastics industry.
Fabric
All fabric will be sold for “shoddy”.
